Hi everyone, today I’ll show you the best way to solve the Hulu not working on Apple TV problem on your own, this will help you to access Hulu for free on your Apple TV without any computer or cable.
Hulu is accessible on Apple TV through a completely free app. It is also free to stream from your own computer, but you must be signed into your Hulu account from a Mac or PC. This guide will show you how you can login to your Hulu account from your Apple TV to continue your Hulu experience.

Quick fixes you can try if Hulu isn’t working on Apple TV
Reconnect to a Hulu account
Maybe Hulu isn’t working on Apple TV because your account didn’t renew on time, causing a crash or temporary error. To resolve this issue, log out of your current session, reset your account information, and then log back in.
Find out how to sign out of your Hulu account on your Apple TV here:
- Step one: Open the Hulu app on your Apple TV.
- Step two: Use the navigation bar and go to your profile via the global navigation bar.
- Step three: Scroll down the page and find the logout option, click it.
Do not log in immediately, but wait a few minutes and then check if the problem is solved.
See other transmissions
If the show you’re currently watching on Hulu isn’t loading, the platform may have deleted the show.
To see if that’s where the error is, go to the Hulu library, select another title and show it on your Apple TV, if it works you have your answer.
Ideally, you can report this to Hulu, but if you still want to watch the discontinued shows, check out the alternatives to Hulu where you can find similar content.
Make sure your version of Apple TV is supported by Hulu.
Hulu is compatible with many systems, but in rare cases, some features or content may not play on your device. For example: You cannot play HDR content on a device that does not support HD playback. To confirm, go to the Hulu Help Center and verify that the version of Apple TV you are using is supported by Hulu.
To access Hulu, use a web browser or update the software on your device. If this still does not work, use the following solution.
Check Hulu servers.
Hulu is a streaming platform that relies heavily on its servers, as it is an online service. So, before you decide to contact a professional, make sure Hulu’s servers are not down.
There are many sites where you can check the current status of each application and see if there have been any problems in the last 34 hours. I usually go to Statuscake to check the downtime of my applications and websites.
If it turns out that the Hulu servers are down, the program will not work on the Apple TV or any other device. All you can do is reopen the application after a few hours to see if it works again. Usually, Hulu sends a message to all users in such cases to inform them when the issues with the app will be fixed.
Check and restart your internet
After viewing content on Hulu in low, medium and high quality, I discovered that the platform requires an average internet speed of 3 Mbps. Below this value, there will be delays or, in the worst case, the application will not load. To ensure a smooth live stream, your internet speed must be above 9 Mbps.
If you don’t know the speed of your internet, you can do a speed test. Open Fast.com in your browser and it will automatically show you your internet speed.
If your network speed is slow, contact your internet service provider and request an upgrade. Check the internet speed and if the problem persists, try rebooting the router. When Hulu doesn’t work on Apple TV
If Hulu doesn’t work on the Apple TV after you increase your internet speed, it means the problem isn’t with your network. In this case, continue with the next correction.
Change the DNS settings.
Sometimes the default DNS settings can become unstable and cause problems when streaming videos on Hulu. In fact, this happens when your ISP’s default DNS is no longer available.
In that case, you need to change your DNS settings. Follow the steps below to do this:
- Step one: Open Apple TV Preferences.
- Step two: Go to the General option and click on the Network tab.
- Step three: Tap Wi-Fi and open the current network connection.
- Step four: Now click on Configure DNS and select the option Manual.
- Step 5: Select the default DNS of Google. (Google DNS server: 22.214.171.124 / 126.96.36.199)
- Now go back to the Hulu app on Apple TV and click Refresh to see if the issue is fixed.
Restart the Apple TV.
Your Apple TV often encounters unexpected errors that can cause apps like Hulu to crash unexpectedly. You’ll need to get your device’s operating system to restart all its resources by rebooting your Apple TV.
Here’s how you can do it:
- Step one: On the Siri remote, press and hold the Back and TV buttons simultaneously until the Apple TV status light starts flashing.
- Step two: Next, unplug the power cord from the Apple TV and wait a few minutes before plugging it back in.
- Step three: Now, go to the settings of the Apple TV, find the System > Reboot option and complete the process by following the steps shown on the screen.
In 8 out of 10 cases, Apple TV hulu works after the reboot, but if you still have no luck, proceed with the following solution.
Updating Apple TV.
If your Apple TV’s operating system is outdated, it may prevent Hulu or other apps from working. So you need to check for updates on your Apple TV. If so, follow these steps to install them.
- Step one: Open the Apple TV settings page and scroll down to the System tab.
- Step two: You will see the Update Software option, click on it and then click Update Software when prompted.
- Step three: If an update is available, click Download and Install.
The developers of the Hulu app release regular updates to fix bugs and common issues. You may be using an outdated version of the streaming platform that is no longer compatible with Apple TV.
To fix this problem, you need to update Hulu. Here’s how to do that on Apple TV:
- Step one: From your Apple TV, go to the Apple Store.
- Step two: Now scroll down to the Purchased section and find Hulu.
- Step three: When Hulu has an update, it will appear next to the app icon. Install the latest version by following the instructions on screen.
Wait a few seconds, then open Hulu to see if the problem is fixed.
Reinstall the Hulu application.
If Hulu does not work on Apple TV even after updating Apple TV and Hulu, the streaming app is probably not installed correctly or there are corrupt files. In this case, you will need to reinstall the application.
Follow the steps below to safely reinstall Hulu on your Apple TV:
- Step one: Open Apple TV and highlight the Hulu app on the home screen.
- Step two: Now press and hold the touch surface of the Siri remote until the icons start moving.
- Step three: Then press Play/Pause on the Apple TV and delete Hulu using the Delete button.
- Step four: After uninstalling the application, go to the Apple Store and reinstall it after waiting a few minutes.
Use the application for 10 minutes and check all transmissions and channels to make sure the error has been fixed.
Reset the Apple TV.
Before you do this, make sure you’ve backed up all the data on your Apple TV, as it will be erased after the reset.
Resetting your Apple TV will remove all files, including corrupted files, as it restores your TV’s factory settings.
I recommend choosing this step only if you have technical knowledge of iOS devices or if someone with knowledge in this area can help you. If you want to continue this correction, you can do so as follows:
- Step one: Open Apple TV and go to the Settings app.
- Step two: Now click on the Systems tab.
- Step three: You will now find the Reset option, click on it and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.
Resetting your Apple TV takes a few minutes, depending on the amount of data stored on it. Then, reinstall Hulu and all the necessary apps on your Apple TV. Now open Hulu and see if it works.
Report a problem to Hulu.
It’s rare that Hulu still doesn’t work on your Apple TV after following the steps above, but if it does, you may have a technical issue that requires you to contact a professional. To resolve this issue, contact Hulu support and ask for a specialist.
