How to Disable Snap Layouts for Maximize Button in Windows 11

Ever since Windows 8, the taskbar in Windows and the Start Menu in Windows 10 has been known to use a new Windows Explorer-like functionality called Snap Layouts. This allows users to re-order the app shortcuts in their taskbar. If you don’t like this feature, you can easily disable the feature.

In Windows 10, the snap layouts are now enabled by default. If you want to disable snap layouts, you can use Windows Registry Editor to do so. The following Registry key is used to disable snap mode.

Windows 10’s new Snap features are a lot more flexible and powerful than you might think. For example, you can use Snap mode to temporarily replace the taskbar. But Microsoft has also added a keyboard shortcut that you can use to temporarily disable the taskbar. Here’s how to do it.

You can disable the pop-up layouts for the magnification button in Windows 11 if you find them distracting. The window fix feature is not exclusive to the operating system, but the layout pop-up is a new feature in Windows 11.

The window snapping feature allows the user to change the size and position of open windows and applications on the screen. To improve this situation, Microsoft has added a descriptive tooltip that lets you quickly reorganize open applications into one of four templates.

These include:

  • Windows in two equal parts.
  • two windows next to each other, whereby the left window is wider than the right one.
  • a large window on the left and two vertically placed windows on the right.
  • a grid of four equally sized windows.

Binding layouts are automatically displayed when you hold the mouse pointer over the Maximize window button.

In this article, we will show you how to disable the Binding Layouts popup for the Maximize button in Windows 11. This is an option for every user.

Disable the formatting binding for the Maximize button in Windows 11

  1. Open the Settings application from the Start menu or with the Win + I keys.
  2. Go to System > Multitasking.
  3. On the right side, uncheck the Show docking appointments when hovering button Maximize window to disable the pop-up window.

  1. You can now close the Settings application.

You’re done. The tethering offer is immediately disabled for your Windows 11 user account.

You can quickly turn it back on by following the same steps. Proceed as follows.

Enable standard clipping control for the magnification button

  1. Press Win + I to open the settings.
  2. Press the System key.
  3. Select Multitasking on the left.
  4. In the right pane, select the Show Docking Arrangements check box when hovering over the Maximize Window button to activate it.

  1. You can now close the settings if you have no other tasks for them.

Let’s go!

Finally, you may want to change a registry option. I have also prepared some files that you can download and use immediately.

Turn off link supply in register

The link layout options can be found under the following path in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced.  There you need to change or re-create a 32-bit DWORD value called EnableSnapAssistFlyout.

You can set one of the following values.

0 = Disable
1 = Enable

Apparently, enabling Snap Flyout has no effect when Snap Assist is disabled in Windows 11. So to make sure everything works 100%, check that the value of the WindowArrangementActive (REG_SZ) line in the following key is 1.

Loading of ready-to-use registry files

Download the following ZIP archive with the two REG files.

Download the ZIP archive

After downloading, extract the files to the folder that suits you. You can place them safely on your desk. The first file, Disable show snap layouts for maximize button in Windows 11.reg, disables this feature.

The second – Enable show snap layouts for maximize buttons on Windows 11.reg – restores the tooltip.

While the Settings application applies the changes immediately, if you change the registry, you must restart or log out of your account to apply the changes.
